毎年ハロウィンは特に何もやってなかったんですけど、バンドも解散して時間が出来たので新たな企画としてメドレーカバー動画を作りました。

すっげー気合入ってるのでHelloween好きはもちろん、そうでない人も楽しめると思います。

曲によってチューニングが違う、という事が最近多い。

現代のヘヴィな音楽シーンではもはや当たり前のように7弦ギターとかドロップC#とか使ってるよな。

もはや現代において手軽に激しい雰囲気を作るにはダウンチューニングは必須のテクニックだと思う。

でもダウンチューニングって技術的にはチューニングを下げるだけなんですけど、機材面においては弦を相応のゲージに変えたり、アンプやエフェクターの設定も変えたりが必要で結構めんどい。

レコーディングにおいてはダウンチューニング専用のギターを用意しておく事で解消されるのだけど、ライブにおいてはなかなかそうはいかない。

曲ごとにチューニングを変える…というのはステージ進行的になかなか厳しいし、複数のギターを持って行くのもまた大変だ。

いっその事ダウンチューニングを使うならレギュラーチューニングの曲はやらない、という手もある。

けど自分はそうゆうのも好きだけど、そうゆうのじゃないのも好きなのでこれも難しい。

どうしたものか？と考えた末に、Variaxというギターを導入したりしたんですけど他のギターでも同じような事は出来ないものか！？とまたまた考え、今回Dropというエフェクターを導入してみました。

デジテック Dropとは

DigiTech® Dropは、１半音下から１オクターブ下まで、あなたのギターのチューニングを下げることのできる、ポリフォニック ドロップ チューン ペダルです。ギターのチューニングを瞬時に下げることが可能になります。 Dropには、２つのスイッチング モードがあります。１つは一般的なラッチング モード（押すたびにオンとオフが切り替わる）、もう１つはモーメンタリー モード（スイッチを押している間だけオンあるいはオフ）です。モーメンタリー モードに設定すれば、素早いトリルやローラー コースターのようなピッチ降下を演出することができ、Dropをパフォーマンス ペダルに変貌させることもできます。

Whammy（ワーミー）で有名なDigiTechから出ているダウンチューニング専用のピッチシフターです。

これを使う事でボタン一つで半音下げ～1オクターブまで下げる事が可能。

-2.5音で7弦ギターと同じになる便利アイテムだ。

Whammyについて

本家のWhammyにもちょっと触れます。

Whammyはフットペダルの踏み込みによってピッチを操作するエフェクターなんですけど、こっちはどちらかと言うとピッチを上げる方で使われるエフェクトです。

ペダルの踏み込み方でピッチの上下のタイミングを操作し、最大で上下共に2オクターブのピッチシフトが可能。

これを使うとウィ～ンウィン～♪という特徴的な音になるのですぐわかる。

Whammyを使った特有の曲は結構ありますけど、僕はPanteraのBecomingが一番印象的だったかも。

メインリフでいきなりウィンウィンしまくっててカッコいい。

もちろん設定によってピッチを下げる方向で操作する事も可能。

そうゆう意味ではDropはWhammyの機能制限版、と言えるわけだな。

Dropの利点、普通にピッチシフターでピッチを下げるのとどう違うのか？

結論から言うとピッチシフトさせてるわりに音が良く、レーテンシ遅れなどを感じさせず、不自然さを抑えて音程を下げられる、という点にあります。

Whammyも同様なんですけどピッチシフトさせてるのに音質をあまり損なわないのが特徴です。

なんでか？と言うと、Dropが他のピッチシフター系エフェクターと違って「ピッチを下げた音 + 原音」を同時に鳴らす、いわゆるブレンドをまったく重要視してない所にあります。

Dropにもブレンドの概念は一応あるのだけど、「1オクターブ下げた音 + 原音」という物しか存在せず、「ギターのピッチを下げる事」に目的を絞ったエフェクターなんですね。

これに対して普通のピッチシフターは「3音上げ + 原音」みたいな感じのなんちゃってハモリギターみたいな事も出来るし、そもそもブレンドさせた音を出すことを目的にしてます。

この目的の差によって何が変わってくるかと言うと、「ピッチ変化させた場合の音質をどれくらい重視しているか？」という事に繋がってきます。

ブレンドさせた音を主軸に置くなら変化させた方の音質はやや劣化させても良いし、むしろ劣化させた方が良いと思う。

Dropは原音の音質をなるべく忠実にピッチを下げる事だけに性能のほぼ全部を振ってるので、出音が違うのだと思う。

Whammy Ricochetというのもある

わりと最近出たエフェクターですが、Whammy Ricochetというのもあって、こっちは軽量で安価だけどWhammyの機能がほぼ全部使えるという夢のエフェクター。

つまり、それってDropの機能も全部使えるって事で……Dropの存在意義は！？

それぞれの違いを一応紹介します。

Whammy、Whammy Ricochet、Dropの比較

実はWhammy RicochetはDropと違うし、Whammyとももちろん違う。

DropとWhammyとを含めた3機種の違いがある所を比較するとこんな感じ。

この図で重要なのは「和音への適応」で、これはWhammy、Whammy Ricochetに備わっているchordモードとclassicモードの切り替えを示します。

• chordモード＝和音に対応可能
• classicモード＝単音に特化、レーテンシ遅れほぼ無い

ダウンチューニング対策として使う場合はバッキングでこそ使う感じになるので、和音対応可能なchordモードでの使用になる。

しかし、このchordモードにおいてWhammy Ricochetはサンプルレートが半分に落ちてしまうんですね。

サンプルレートは簡単に言うと音の解像度なので高い方が良いです。（普通にCD音質だと44.1）

以上の事からWhammy Ricochetは軽量で便利だけどダウンチューニング対策機種としては正直ちょっとイマイチだと思います。

でもそれ以外の用途では素晴らしいので欲しい。

おわりに

久々の長文ですが、Dropの紹介でした。

これがあればセットリストの中のダウンチューニング曲も怖くない。…はず。

ギター側の機能で変則チューニングに瞬時に対応可能なVariaxを以前購入し紹介しましたが、どっちがベストなのか正直決めかねてます。

DropやWhammyにはピッチシフトの影響で高域が曇る弱点があるのですが、Variaxは逆に高域がギラついて低域が損なわれるクセがあるんですよね。

近いうちに純粋なメタル仕様の7弦ギターを入手して、それと併せて3種を比較しようと思ってますので、その際はまた記事にしようと思います。

さっそくですがギターを買いました。

以前ここでも書いたのですが、今年の春に買ったPhantom Guitar WorksのPhantom6と同じ形状、ファントムギターです。

ボディとヘッドの形状は同じですが今回のはただのファントムではない！

わかってもらえないギター、ファントム

ファントムは見た目カッコいいのですがサウンドについてあんまり情報が無く、「音悪そう」とか言われる事もある。

悪くないよ～、物によるけど良いよ～。

前回のphantom6や今回のテレファントム購入にあたって仕様情報をまとめて掲載されている所が無く、ちょっと苦労しました。

どこにも書かれてないなら僕が書いても良いのでは…？「なっちゃえばいいじゃん羆に」…。

というわけで今回、テレファントムについてまとめていきます。

まぁ…まとめると言ってもテレファントムの入手方法は非常に少ないのですが。

そもそもテレファントムとは？

あまり一般的じゃないギターなのですが、VOXのギターphantom（ファントム）のボディシェイプにテレキャスターを合体させたギターで東京事変の浮雲（本名の長岡亮介ではペトロールズで活動）さんが使用してる事で有名なギターです。

制作は千葉にあるギター工房、Songbird（ソングバード）で同モデルは一般には流通しておらずオーダーメイドで制作を請け負ってもらえるようです。

この人が持ってるテレファントムには色んな仕様のバージョンがあるみたいですね。

（ちなみに今回僕が買ったテレファントムはソングバード製では無いです。）

テレファントムを手に入れる方法

１　Songbirdに制作オーダーする
２　コピーモデルを新品か中古で買う
３　自分で作る、もしくは工房等にフルオーダー

１については情報が少なくて何とも言えないんですけど、実際にオーダーして作ってもらった実例があるようです。

２は後述するファントムギターワークスのモデルを購入する方法でこの中だと一番ハードルが低い方法ですが、仕様がSongbirdと全然違う。

３はたまにSNSで自作した人など見かけるのですが、設計テンプレートが出回ってないなど通常の自作ギターに比べて難易度が高いそうです。

とりあえず一番ハードルの低いコピーモデルについて紹介します。

テレファントムを販売しているメーカー、ファントムギターワークス

ソングバード製はオーダーメイドのみでしか手に入らないのですが、一応他のメーカーから似たモデルが一般流通してます。

Phantom Guitar WorksにあるPhanTeleというモデルです。

値段は新品で17万円くらい。代理店を挟まず直取引だと1000ドル(約10万円)くらいで買えるっぽいです。

PhantomモデルにTLスタイルのPUレイアウトとコントロール、ブリッジを採用した”Phantele（ファンテレ/テレファントム)”モデル。2ピックアップ仕様によるシンプルな操作性と、マホガニーボディ＆メイプルネック/ローズ指板という組み合わせから来る、明るい中音域に加え、テレキャスター的なソリッドできらびやかなトーン、TLブリッジによる立ち上がり、切れの良いサウンドが魅力です。もちろんこのスタイルならではの演奏性、取り回しの良さもポイントです。

外見はそっくりでデジマート等でもたまに見かけるので買いやすくて良いのですが、実は仕様がソングバード製とだいぶ違います。

テレファントムを主立って使用しているのは浮雲さんだけなので、つまりテレファントムに興味がある人は「ああゆう音が欲しい！」と思われているのだと仮定しますが、ファントムギターワークスのファンテレで近い音を出すのは無理だと思う。

下記に違いをまとめましたのでファントムギターワークスのファンテレを購入しようかと思ってる人は是非チェックしてほしい。

ソングバード製とファントムギターワークス製の違い

ぱっと見た感じは同じように見えるんですけど仕様は別物です。

簡単に違うところだけをまとめると下記のような感じ。

ボディ材の違いによる影響

まず音に大きく影響しそうな違いとしてはボディ材で、ソングバードが採用しているアルダー材は一般的なテレキャスターやストラト、ジャズマスター等に採用されている材で、例外はありますけど基本的に高域ジャキジャキ寄りの音になります。

これに対してファントムギターワークスが採用しているマホガニー材はレスポールやSG等に採用されている材で、太くて丸く音になる傾向があります。

マホガニーも種類や個体差はありますが僕が持ってるファントムギターワークスのphantom6の鳴り方はだいぶマイルドなのでファンテレの方も多分同じだと思います。

この時点でも相当な差があるんですけど、個人的に最も気になったのはブリッジです。

ブリッジの仕様による影響

２本ともブリッジに関してはテレキャスターの仕様を基準にしてるかと思いきや実はここも違います。

具体的に違う所に印を付けました。

ソングバードのテレファントム

ソングバード製のテレファントムは一般的なテレキャスターのそれと同じです。

ファントムギターワークスのPhanTele

続いてファントムギターワークスのファンテレですが、こちらはサドルとピックアップの位置が非常に近い。

何を参考に作られたのかわかりませんが他のギターで見た事無いような規格になってます。

こうして比較すると一目瞭然ですが、Phantom Guitar Worksは1弦側のリアピックアップとサドルが物凄い近い。

これは設計時のオクターブピッチに関する仕様の影響なので、少しくらいならともかくここまでの距離になるとセッティングの問題とかで変えられるものでは無いです。

生の鳴り方に大きな影響は無いですがピックアップが拾う音への影響はかなりあるはずです。

正確な意図は不明ですが、マホガニーボディのマイルドな音をシャキッとさせるためにピックアップとサドルを近い位置になるように設計したのかな？と思ってます。

元ネタ、VOXのphantomⅥの仕様

VOXのファントムは63年頃より生産開始されたビザールギターと呼ばれるジャンルのエレキギターです。

ビザールギターはフェンダーやギブソン、リッケンバッカー等のギターのデザインと被らない様な形状で作られており、基本的に安価なモデルが多いです。

型番:Phantom VI
生産国：イギリス or イタリア
重量：3~3.5Kg
ボディ材：ラワン of アグバ
ネック材：シカモア（ヨーロピアンメイプル）
指板材：ローズウッド or エボニー
ナット幅：41～42mm
弦長：634mm

ちなみにVOXにテレファントムは存在しません。

生産国が変わったりで仕様も色々あるみたいですが、このphantomⅥの仕様は現代基準で見ると異質で、ボディ材にはアグバとかラワンと言った今のギターでは使用されてない材を採用してたみたいです。

アグバはよくわからないですけど、ラワンは建築材やベニヤの合板素材に使われてるので結構一般的な木材で６０年代や７０年代のビザールギターではよく使用されていたようです。

特に希少性がある木材というわけでもないのですが、現代のギターではどちらの材も使われてるの見た事無い。

当時のファントムは安いギターだったようなので恐らくコストの問題でアグバやラワンになったんだと思います。（そんな安ギターも今はビンテージなので２０万円以上します。）

アグバは比較的マホガニーに近い性質らしいのでファントムギターワークスの方が元ネタのVOXに近い仕様になってます。

ソングバードもファントムギターワークスは目指す方向性が違う

ファントムギターワークスはVOXのphantomⅥの再現を意識して作成されており、PhanTeleはその延長線上で作成されたオリジナルモデルという位置付けです。

phantomⅥっぽい音だけどテレキャスター要素が外見に出ているギターがファントムギターワークスのPhanTeleでしょう。

これに対してソングバードはボディやヘッドの形状こそファントムですが、目指す方向としてはフェンダーのテレキャスターにかなり寄った作りになってます。

テレキャスターに近い音だけど外見にファントム要素が強い、というのがソングバードのテレファントムと言えます。

この差はかなり大きく似て非なるものなので「テレファントム欲しい～」と言う人は良く考えた方がよいですぞ。

今回買ったテレファントムはどちらでも無いです

以上がテレファントムに関するまとめ情報でした。

…で、ここまで書いてきてアレなんですけど今回僕が入手しましたテレファントムですがソングバードとファントムギターワークスのどちらでもありません。

自作が一番近いんですけど、僕にギターを自作できる技術は無い。自作はハードルが高すぎる。

仕様的にはソングバードのテレファントムが欲しかったのですがどこにも売ってなくて、ネットを放浪してたのですがある日たまたまヤフオクに個人製作のクラフトマンが作成したテレファントムが出品されているのを発見しましてね。

そう！！これが第４の選択肢、「人が作ったやつを買う」じゃーい！！！

自分の手元にあるギターの制作工程がこうして見れるのは良いですねぇ。

動画の最後に完成品の試奏が収録されており、そこで音質などの傾向もおおむね把握できてたので躊躇うことなく購入することが出来ました。

実物についてですが音が暴れたり詰まったりする事もなく、良い意味で国産！！という感じに仕上がっており音もジャキジャキでかなり自分好み。

最近ジャズマスター欲しいな～？とか思ってたのですがこのテレファントムが想像以上に良かったのでジャズマスターへの欲がすっかり冷めてしまったほどです。

懐かしのシンフォニック東方…の中だと一番最近のになるんでしょうか、曲はLouder than steelです。

すんげーキーが高いんですけどこの曲が収録されてたCD、シンフォニック東方Ⅸは全部こんな感じのクソ高い曲しか収録されておらず、相対的にLouder than steelも普通のキー…という錯覚を起こさせる狂った作品です。

やってみて思った事

新しく曲作るより全然楽なんですけど、がっつりミックスもマスタリングし直してるので結構手間かかりました。

何がアレかと言うと元々パート数が盛り盛りなせいでギターのリアンプとかドラムの音作りとかを省いても朝から晩までくらい時間かけないと仕上がらないという…。

シンフォニック東方はヤバい。

他の曲について

そんなわけなので短期間でたくさん公開！みたいのが時間的に難しいのですが、他の曲も公開しようかと思ってます。

Kemperとは

現在メイン機材として使用しているKemper Profiling Amplifierで使えるおすすめRIGを紹介します。

最近はKemperの中古も結構出回ってって手を出しやすくなった気がしますが、その前にKemper(ケンパー)について。

独自のプロファイリング・テクノロジーによって実在するアンプの特性をデジタルデータ化し取り込み、使用する事が可能な楽器/機材です。

ラックタイプの「Kemper Profiling Amplifier RACK」、独特のフォルムですがアンプヘッドタイプの「Kemper Profiling Amplifier HEAD」があり、これらにはパワーアンプ内蔵型と非内蔵型があります。
どちらもMIDIフットコントローラーに対応しているのでライブでも使用可能。
まぁライブに関しましてはマルチエフェクター型の「PROFILER STAGE」というタイプもあるので、こちらの方がおすすめです。

最近はパワードスピーカーなる専用キャビネットも発売したようですが、これは試したことないです。興味はある。

これまでの約20年、デジタル・プロセッシング技術はギター/ベース・アンプのサウンド再現にチャレンジしてきましたが、入念に設計されたチューブ・アンプのサウンドやフィールを完璧に再現するレベルには到達していません。しかし、その高いハードルを越える日がついに来たのです。 そのカギを握るのが、プロファイリングです。

Kemperはエディターのソフトを用いてリグと言う様々なプリセットデータを読み込ませることで使用できます。

あくまで再現モデリングではなく、実機を直接取り込むプロファイリングなのだ！との事。

これにより真空管だろうがトランジスタだろうが関係なしに、アンプ実機のパワーアンプ、プリアンプ、キャビネット等の要素を全て取り込んでKemperからほぼ完全再現する事が可能となります。

とにかく便利です。

Kemper難しい…買った当初は使いこなせませんでした

長らくVSTのアンプシミュソフトを使ってたんですけど数年前からケンパーに切り替え、今に至るまでメインで使い続けてます。

Kemperは良くも悪くもリグの質に相当音が左右されるので、導入当初はなかなか使いこなせず最初自分に合ってるリグを手に入れられなかったので良い音が出せない…というか「音悪い…？」と思いました。

今から思うと自分にあったリグデータ(Rig)を揃えられてればまったく問題なかったんですよね。

しかしリグデータは本当に膨大な数あり、その中から合ったものを探すのもかなり大変。

どこかに具体的なおすすめが書かれてたら良いのにな…と思ったものです。

……なら自分で作ろう！！

そんなわけで今回はKemperのリグの中でも「これは良いぞ！」というものを紹介します。

特にハイゲインアンプ、ヘヴィメタルで使えるようなアンプを主に紹介します。

リグデータの入手方法

有志の作成したデータをケンパーの管理ソフトウェアからダウンロード出来ます。

こちらは無料でいくらでも落とせるんですが、クオリティにバラツキがあり、それでいてとんでもない数のデータがある（10万種以上）ので僕はこの方法は使ってません。

おすすめ、というか一般的な方法はリグデータを販売しているサイトで購入しケンパーにインストールして使う方法です。

Rigデータはお手頃価格のものも多く、数百円から購入可能です。

エフェクターやアンプシミュレーターソフトを買うのに比べるとかなり安く、仕事でも十分に使えるレベルのクオリティのリグデータがたくさんあります。

以下はおすすめ、というか実際によく使っているリグデータの販売サイトです。

ViViX Website

ViViXとは、G5 Project、G.O.D.、serenade等を抱え、
インストゥルメンタリストを中心とした音楽の
未来を創り出していくレーベルであり、
「Vivid」の「鮮やかな」という意味と
「Visible」の「目に浮かぶ、目立つ」などの意味を持たせた造語です。

今回唯一の国内の販売サイトです。

ハイゲイン系を求めるなら「Kemper Profiling Day in Tokyo Rig Pack Vol.1」がおすすめです。

お値段3,000円でFriedman BE-100、Koch Twintone Mark III、Peavey 5150 II、Bogner ATMA、Soldano SLO-100といったアンプのリグデータがまとめて手に入ります。

中でもFriedman BE-100のリグがとても使いやすい。

もしもっとハイゲインなサウンドを！との事でしたら「Kemper Profiling Day in Tokyo Rig Pack Vol.3」にある5150-Ⅲ（単独で1,500円）がヘヴィで太いサウンドが出るのでおすすめ。

TheAmpFactory is actually a recording studio, (AKA OrangeTreeStudios) hence why we have so many amplifiers, and why the Kemper made such sense to us. – This helps, as a good sound always needs to be treated correctly direct from the source, good equipment is not always needed of course, but it certainly helps put a professional stamp on things.

ヴィンテージ物を含め膨大な量のリグデータを販売している海外サイト。

どちらかというとクリーン、クランチ系多し。

あと特徴としてリグにデフォルトで様々なコンパクトエフェクターやラックエフェクトが用意されているので、エフェクトボタンのオンオフ切り替えをするだけでそれらを読み込ませられます。（多くのリグはリグを素材として提供しているので、エフェクト設定などについてはあえて用意してないっぽいです）

クオリティは非常に高く、いわゆる「え、これ実機じゃないの！？」という生々しさが売り。

実機で試せる機会がそうそう無さそうな貴重なアンプのリグが１パック７００円くらいという凄いお手軽価格で手に入る。

個人的には「Orange RockerVerb」というパックと「Fender Bassman」というパックがおすすめ。

特に「Fender Bassman」はシビアなニュアンスをデータ化するためか、パック内に「テレキャス用」とか「レスポール用」みたいな細分化されたリグデータが含まれており、合計５０種以上のリグデータが収録されていました。凄い。

どのパックにも様々なセッティング、マイキングのデータが含まれていてお値段以上です。

なお、無料のリグも配布しており、とりあえず最初のショップとして使用するのにも良いのですが、メタルサウンド系については別のショップのほうがおすすめかも。

比較的近年のアンプメーカーですが、Fortinが何と公式で販売しているリグデータです。

Fortinの中でもMESHUGGAHというDjent、メタルバンドのシグニチュアモデルのリグですが、これにはもちろん実機が存在します。

「採算取れるのか…？」とちょっと気になりますが、実機を製造してるメーカーが出すリグデータという事でクオリティは間違いないものになってます。

セール時はもっと安くなりますけどフルプライスだと日本円で７,０００円くらい。

これまでの中では高価な部類ですが、Fortinのゴリゴリだけどジャキジャキなサウンドが一発で手に入ります。

リグのデモ動画がありましたので「Fortinってなんぞ？」という方も是非聴いてみて下さい↓

すっげぇメタルしてますね。

Fortinの実機を使ったこと無いのですが、物凄いハイゲイン感と生っぽさが共存しているのが特徴かと。

こんな凶悪なサウンドを一発で呼び出せるリグデータが５０個もセットになっているリグパック。

モダンなメタルサウンドを求めるなら所持しておいても良いのでは？と思えるおすすめパックです。

おわりに

いかがでしたでしょうか。

Kemperは出来ることや再現可能なサウンドがあまりに多岐にわたりすぎているのと、リグも数え切れないくらい膨大な数があるので、そこが良さであり難しさでもあります。

とんでもない広範囲の音作りが可能なので便利なんですけどね。

今回ここで紹介したリグデータは僕が普通にレコーディングとかで使用しているものです。

身銭を切っているだけでなく、本当に作品に使用しているという事で多少の説得力がある…はずだ！！

リグ自体はそんな高いものではないので趣味として自宅でちょっと鳴らしたり、宅録でバリバリ使うのにも有効だと思います。

RIG MANAGER（リグマネージャー）という管理ソフトで簡単にリグを入れたり編集したり出来て、とりあえず良さそうなやつは入れてみて検証するのがおすすめです。
